The Mission
JD Quarter Horses was founded on a passion for and appreciation of the Quarter Horse, and on knowing exactly what JDQH wanted this breeding program to represent and the kind of horses JDQH wanted to produce.
The vision behind JD Quarter Horses was to bring back the old-school cow horse bloodlines that built the American Quarter Horse that is loved and known today. This foundation gives the flexibility to cross JD Quarter Horse's mares with a wide variety of outside stallions, as well as JDQH stallions.
Every breeding is carefully planned with one goal in mind: to produce quality horses with the mind, conformation, and ability to become performers in or outside the arena. JDQH believes great horses begin long before they enter the arena; from selecting proven bloodlines to raising each foal in the high desert of Lakeview, Oregon, we focus on helping every horse reach its full potential.
The program wouldn’t be what it is without the band of mare power that has accumulated over the years, and could easily argue it's the cornerstone of the program. Leading that band are proven performers Miss Dual Smartee ("Smarty") and TivitosAtTheGoGoBar ("Katy"), both California Circuit Finals Barrel Racing Champions, earners of over a quarter of a million dollars, and accomplished professional rodeo performers. Their athletic ability, proven performance records, and exceptional nature represent the qualities JDQH strives to pass on to every foal it raises.
Then came the purchase of Red Tachita Doc, the 2009 King Ranch-bred stallion whose pedigree reflects generations of proven ranch and performance horses known for their athleticism and cow sense. By Marsala Red out of Tachita De Doc, he outcrosses today's popular performance pedigrees. Red Tachita Doc offers breeders the opportunity to preserve the qualities that made the American Quarter Horse legendary while also offering the opportunity to cross any of their mares with him, creating endless opportunities to thoughtfully match pedigrees in the hopes of producing versatile horses capable of succeeding in ranch work, roping, cow horse events, and beyond.
With the purchase of Red Tachita Doc, the hope is to preserve generations of proven performance bloodlines. Each cross is thoughtfully planned to produce horses with the balance of speed, athleticism, trainability, and sound minds that today's horsemen and competitors demand.
At JD Quarter Horses, the responsibility extends beyond producing quality foals. JDQH is committed to building lasting relationships with clients, operating with honesty and transparency, and providing the support needed throughout the breeding process. Whether a horse's future lies on a working ranch, in the roping pen, going down the fence, or simply as a trusted partner, the mission remains the same: to raise exceptional Quarter Horses bred, built, and raised to perform and last.
Raising your future.
